Well, since other people seem to post their routes, here’s my planned route for the Challenge, so feel free to have a look if you’re interested.
I’m sure it’s a basic, first-timer type route, which is absolutely fine by me. I have other variations in my head if I suddenly decide the weather is brill and it would be a nice idea to change some bits, but I’m also quite happy if I end up doing it exactly as planned.
Hope the link works….
Looks a good route Chrissie. A bit of flexibility is no bad thing

I couldn’t zoom in on your link so only got a general gist. But it will be pretty wonderful, not least walking for two weeks in pleasant sunshine but with a gentle breeze. π

It’s good to know that you’ve ordered perfect weather for us all, David π

Doing exactly as planned will give you a wonderful couple of weeks, and above all it’s totally in the spirit of the TGO as you’re bound to meet some great people along the way. My routes tend to be far too solitary. If the weather is kind and the legs are willing, the odd diversion on the hoof will simply add to the adventure. Hopefully David has arranged for that breeze to be blowing in the right direction. I’m still trying to find out who arranged the lightning and thunder on my last crossing.

Thanks for that John. π Looking forward to it and David is adamant he’s ordered us all gorgeous weather. Don’t know if your last trip was 2015, but Geoff was cycling LEJOG that May, and he had thunder, lightning, hail, plagues of locusts and hurricanes on the Scottish leg…

2015, it was indeed. I was crossing from Blackwater reservoir to Glen Coe at the time, scared the bejeezus out of me.

Geoff and I have passed several thunderstorms in the States, just sat in the tent in silence, holding hands…. π¦

That looks a great route Chrissie. You won’t be short of views, that’s for sure. I’ll look out for you at Ruthven Barracks, Kingussie. Love the views there when on the A9. Also be careful when crossing the A90 at Laurencekirk if there’s no underpasses. Busy busy road. I’m really looking forward to this blog Chrissie. Enjoy. π

Sure will. Just look out for a big red mail truck with the Queen’s Royal warrant on the door. I will keep an eye on your progress and dates. You never know. ππ

Just checked the map again…. I remember crossing the A90 in the motorhome back in 2015, when I was meeting up with James in Inverbervie, at the end of his last TGOC. Very, very busy!

What are ‘beacons’? Hope you have a good walk anyway – when is it? June sometime?

Beacons are something to do with every time I put a marker in on the route when I loaded it onto the map…or something like that!
It’s in May; I’m starting on the 12th. Good weather for the fortnight has apparently been ordered…. π€£

May is traditionally good – hope it follows that pattern this year!

Looks good. I know you said we may see other towards the start but looks like you’ll be half a day ahead of me. See you in Montrose then.

Hi Matthew, been away a few days and only just spotted this!
Have a good crossing – it’ll be nice to see you again; in Montrose it is then! π

Best of luck – Scotland in May could be warm/hot/cold/snowy/wet/midgy etc π
Good looking route, the first section from coast to Glen Affric is fab. Glen Affric is tghe best in Scotland in my opinion. TGOC is on my list to try and do once the kids have finally left the nest.

Thanks Andy π Yes it’s trying to pack for every weather possible without having an impossible load to carry!

It looks like you’ve pencilled in a few meets with Geoff. A nice hotel lifts the spirits when it’s been chucking it down with rain & sleet for a few days, and your boots and knickers are soaked.

I don’t think we are likely to bump into each other (just the one place where our routes coincide and I’m not sure it’s on the same day) but you’re in for a grand walk.
A very nice plan, Miss.
Enjoy!

Thanks Alan π I’ve planned to meet Geoff at Loch Morlich, Fettercairn then of course, Inverbervie. I’ve also got a night booked at the hostel in Newtonmore, which, if my memory serves me correctly, is a Wednesday. I believe Andy and Martin are also booked in on the same night….π¨ x

Looks a good route to me, i reckon id even struggle with yours haha. Not sure i’m up to a lot of back to back big mile days yet. Still building my endurance from too many years of not doing enough. Best of luck with the challenge, Atb Mark π

Thanks Mark. I should be averaging around 14 miles each day for the fortnight – it’ll be really nice if the weather decides to be drier than it often is in Scotland! π

14 miles is about my limit at the minute, any more and my feet hurt too much haha π

I don’t routinely do many trips that involve 14 miles a day – 10 maximum is usually more my style π
